Some days the weeds are just better than the flowers!

Hat worked on the loom

"Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
He (Jesus) answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "

Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

This is some kind of wasp. Digging/building in the gravel we have near the pond.

A cricket. I was happy to get his picture, they don't usually sit still long enough for a photo op!

Then He (Jesus) said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me."
Luke 9:23

Lord, You have assigned me my portion and my cup; You have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.

Here is the final result from my #500 pumpkin!!
LOLOL!!
Oh well. Maybe I will try again next year!

Mallow, Daisy, Tiger Lily

God does not give us overcoming life-He gives us life as we overcome.
The strain of life is what builds our strength. If there is no strain, there will be no strength. Once you face the strain, you will immediately get the strength. When you give of yourself spiritually, you get more strength. God never gives us strength for tomorrow, or for the next hour, but only for the strain of the moment.

The cotton squares are put together!!
I am so excited about this blanket!! I think it came together much better than I had thought it would! And it really was alot of fun to make!
Everytime I look at it, I see something different! Hubby says it is a kailidascope!!
It is hard to tell in this picture, but I did put a crochet shell stitch edging on it.
The finished size is about 39X57.

Chickory, Weed, Verbascum

I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord, for He has been good to me.

This patch of wonderful Coneflowers started out as one little pot of white ones!
Now, the patch has grown and this is the only white one left!!

Then He (Jesus) said to her, "Daughter, you faith has healed you. Go in peace."

...Jesus sent him away, saying, "Return home and tell how much God has done for you."
So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.

Friday was the cookout to celebrate!

I took SO many pictures! There is no way to show them all here!
I must just say that everything went so perfect!
My daughter told me yesterday that everything was exactly like what she always wanted! Even the groom got to do his b-b-q cooking! Everyone was happy!!

I will praise You, O Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonders.
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
Ps. 9:1-2

Today is the BIG day!!
My daughter is getting married!!
There is no way to describe all the emotions running through me! So I will just say that I am so thrilled and excited and happy!

Loomed hat.
Worked while riding the bike.
Ok, riding extra miles this last week has not made me loose any weight for this big day, but I sure do feel better, so I will probably try to keep it up! And like I said before, it seems to be the only way I can get any hats made right now!

But let all who take refuge in You be glad,
let them ever sing for joy.

Ps. 5:11

no one will be condemned who takes refuge in Him.

I took this picture of Gallardia seed pods a few weeks ago.
To me, these represent, in a nutshell, 'it's all in how you see it'.
Let me explain. Growing up, I was always told to deadhead the flowers. It was a 'have to do' job of gardening. In the last few years, due to lifestyle changes, I have had to re-think alot of the thinking I learned as a child. One of them was learning that just because one person sees a situation one way, doesn't mean the next person sees the same situation the same. My family would see these seed pods as 'yukky'! A source of concern and irritation because it is a job not done. I have learned that other people see these seed pods as beautiful. So soft and fuzzy and a great sense of peace because nature is taking it's course and providing such beauty.

A weed.
But as you can see from the brown grass behind it, it's about the only thing growing in our yard right now!

Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.

I think I did it!! (Thank you, Rita, for making me try again!)
Look up there, ^ , in my 'intro'!

Hat worked on the loom
I am seriously trying to be on the excercise bike more often. So since my 'knitting' time is being taken up with these two afghans, this seems to be the only way I can get hats done!!

Queen Anne's Lace and Rose of Sharon

Moonflower.
One of my absolute favorites.
They open in the evening and die in the late morning. They have the most intense, wonderful smell of any flower I know. And they attract the Hummingbird Moths. You know, the fun little things that Tomatoe Worms turn into.

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you....
For the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Luke 6:37-38

About 2 weeks ago I put a Monarch caterpillar in my bug catcher. Ten days ago he made his cocoon. I was disappointed to have missed it. I knew he was getting ready to do his thing. I checked him over, grabbed a cup of coffee and came in to check my e-mail, but the time I got back to the kitchen he was done!
When I got up yesterday morning I noticed that the cocoon had gone from a bright green with a sparkley gold ring around it, to a translucent black. As I was drinking my morning coffee I watched as the orange and white specks appeared. This time I brought him with me to the computer. And wouldn't you know, I turned my head just for a minute to type a few lines and POP! out he comes! I missed it again!
But then I did get to watch as he uncurled his wings and dried off.
What a amazing thing to watch.

After a few hours I took him outside and put him on a Butterfly Weed plant. I watched him for awhile and had a great little photo shoot! Then, believe it or not, I got sidetracked watching a Hummingbird and missed him actually flying off!!
I know where there is another caterpillar, maybe I will have to try again!!

But love your enemies, do good to them and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6:35-36

Knitted hat.

I was just out for a walk around the yard and here are the fun things I found!

Although a wicked man commits a hundred crimes and still lives a long time, I know that it will go better with God-fearing men, who are reverant before God.

Hat worked on the loom.
I don't get on that excersise bike very often, but the other day, in front of the a/c, it was fabulous!

We are now officially in a 'moderate drought'.
This is our one and only banana pepper.

And here is what looks like will be our one and only Cleome for this year.
I will have to remember to save some seeds.

Our first Moonflower of the season!!
It looks like we may have a few more of them open up yet!
I am so excited! I LOVE these!

An evil man is snared by his own sin,
but a righteous one can sing and be glad.

These knitted squares will be sent out and put together with other squares then sent to a hospital in Germany for our wounded soldiers.

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

I stepped out last evening for a little bit.
Had a nice little photo shoot. Not much to take pictures of with no rain, but at least something is blooming! Here is our first Zinnia, a Hollyhock, and a Soybean.

Summer is half over. Here is a locust.
Well, to be honest, I heard my first one on July 4.

The people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them.

Knitted hat
Using two strands of something!

Our daylillies.
All those little black dots on the yellow one are tiny little bugs!

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken..Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed Him.
Luke 5:8-11

The first Canna Lily is blooming! The plant is only about half the size it should be, but at least we have color!!

Knitted hat.
Don't know what kind of yarn it is, but I'm guessing something with wool.
Worked flat on #5 circular.

A lovely daylily!
These bulbs came from my parents a few years ago.

As you do not know the path of the wind, or know how the spirit enters the body being formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Decided I needed to finish up this pair of mittens!
As soon as I am done with these afghans, I can't wait to get back to making some more of these!

Even our weeds in are in full bloom!
To be honest, the weeds are doing better than the garden flowers with the hot and dry conditions!

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
Ecc. 12:13-14

Updates on inside growing stuff!

This is White Grapefruit seeds that have sprouted!
I picked up a couple of very ripe grapefruit on the markdown rack at the grocery store a few weeks ago. The first one didn't have many seeds in it, but, boy oh boy, the second one did!! I got all of them to sprout, but I only put 4 of them in dirt. Here is just 2 of them! I don't know how I ended up with 3 stems out of 2 seeds!

Here are my date trees.
Little story behind these!
My Uncle had given us a tray of dried fruit in December 2005. According to the label, it had been outdated for a couple of months. Of course, it all still tasted wonderful! The dates still had the pits in them. I just threw a couple of them in a container I have sitting in the kitchen. A couple of months ago, I found them and decided to see what I could do with them. And here is what I've got! I only saved 2 seeds and now I have 2 beautiful plants!
It is truly amazing! Outdated, dried fruit, old seeds=gorgeous new growth!

Here are the cotton squares that I have been working on.
When I get about 12 more of them done, I will put them all together.
I am loving working with so much fun color!

Apply your heart to instruction

Today is pumpkin update day!

This is Pumpkin #1
He was measured on 7/1 at 25"
and again last night at 26"

This is Pumpkin #2
He was measured on 7/1 at 23"
and again last night at 23"

We had nearly a week of cooler temps: in the mid 50's at night, mid 70's during the day.
We have had a total of 2" of rain since the first of May.
Even with my every other day watering, I'm beginning to wonder if it is enough. In the middle of June, each pumpkin was growing an inch a day. Now they have nearly stopped and it looks to me like they want to start turning color.
I hate to say this, but I'm beginning to think that my BIG pumpkin growing fun for this year may be done.
I guess that means I will need to start concentrating on something else! Ok, I have 2 date trees and 4 white grapefruit trees that I have started from seed in the house. And I still have the 3 citrus trees from Doris that I am hoovering over! I guess I will have to stick to houseplants this season!

Do not let your heart envy sinners,
but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.

Knitted hat.

A couple of daylilies and some dill.

Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him - for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work-this is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.
Ecc. 5:18-20

We went over to the river yesterday.
Oh, it was so wonderful!
I've been busy the last few days so it was quite refreshing and enjoyable to go see some water and relax for just a bit.

Took a walk along the Towpath

Beautiful day!

Knitted child's hat.
I found another small skien of the self-striping yarn. Only this one didn't stripe as nicely as the last one, but it was still so much fun seeing the different colors come out!

A few of our butterflies

I have never seen a Hummingbird Moth like this one before! I was so excited to only get to see him, but get a decent picture of him as well!! What a thrill!

The Milkweed plants seem to the place to hang out for the bugs!
I am finding the neatest things there!!
