...take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Eph. 6:16

Thursday, August 30, 2007

...and there he is!!
The last of the 'lost' catepillars in the house!!
Isn't he beautiful??!!

The rains last week have put everything in motion!
We are having a 'second' growing season here!
Much better than the first!

Received some yarn yesterday for my charity items!
THANK YOU, NONA!!

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

6 more squares finished for the baby afghans.
It is so hard to see the stitch patterns in these pictures.
Trust me, they are adorable!

I got home yesterday and look what Hubby had flying around the house!!
That's one down, one to go!
The second lost catepillar should be showing up any day now!!
This is just too much fun! Maybe next year I will 'lose' catepillars on purpose!! LOLOL!!

Found this guy in my mom's flower garden yesterday! I was so excited. I had looked around here the day before and hadn't found any. This is a Common Garden Spider. Harmless. But so bright and colorful and they make that really cool zig-zag pattern in their web!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly realms.

I was finally able to spend some time outside yesterday!
It seems like it has been so long since I've been out for a good long photo shoot!
I was only in my own backyard, but it was so wonderful!
Here are some of the treasure's I found!

This bright orange bug caught my eye yesterday. When I looked closer, I saw that he was just shedding! I have no idea what kind of but this is, but isn't he cute?!

Put on the full armor of God
so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes.

Do you see these two Praying Mantis?
Couldn't find any for awhile, then last evening-jackpot! Two of them!! LOLOL!!

I had another Monarch hatch yesterday morning.
I put him out in the Zinnia patch and he flew off while I was at church with my mom.

A knitted hat.
This hat has been sitting here at my computer for quite awhile. This is what I work on while I'm waiting for pages to load or while I'm reading. Yesterday I picked it up and took it outside with me to work on while Hubby was making supper. Time to find a new color to work with!

Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.

Heavy dew this morning.

I just had to get out for a quick early morning walk this morning!

Loomed hat.

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
He is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
He delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in Him.

Today is kind of a catch up day for me. I've been on the go so much these last few weeks.
I had every intention of getting out yesterday for some photos. Things just didn't work out the way I had planned! So here are some 'catch-up' photos! Ones I had taken about a month ago!

The days of the blameless are known to the Lord, and their inheritance will endure forever. In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
Ps. 37:18-19

For the baby blankets that I am knitting, I finally decided to do a 'sampler' afghan worked in 9 inch squares. At first I was thinking of doing two logcabin afghans, but then decided that I would feel more comfortable with a more portable project right now. Just too many other things going on. Here are the first 4 squares for each afghan. It is the letters A, B, C & D. The rest of the squares will be animals and stitch patterns.

Look what I woke up to this morning!
My first Black Swallowtail Butterfly hatched!
This is the one that accidentally came in the house as an egg on some dill that I had picked. We watched him eat and grow and make a cocoon and now he has hatched and I have let him go!

Hubby brought me this catepillar a couple of days ago. When I looked in on him this morning, I found this! He is shedding! I had no idea that fuzzy catepillars shed! How exciting!

I found this guy on my Butterfly Weed plant this morning and brought him in. It will be fun to see what he looks like when he grows up! He sure is interesting now!!

If the Lord delights in a man's way, He makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.

We have a pair of Hummingbirds that have been hanging around a lot more often lately.
Yesterday they spent most of the day fighting over this one spot on the bar under the birdfeeder playing in the rain!

Then Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in it's branches."
Luke 13:18-19

I finished my very first pair of baby booties!
Aren't they adorable?

Look what one of my Aunt's found!
She said that as soon as she saw them, she thought of us and just had to pick them up!
They are 1996 Collector's Edition.
THANKS, EUNICE!

This is the yarn that another Aunt gave me to work with. She has asked me to make baby afghans for the new twins that are expected to arrive in December.
This is all RedHeart 100% wool. WW. 4 oz. skeins.
Not exactly 'baby' colors, but I think I can make it work!
I spent most of yesterday in the 'planning stage'. I am quite happy with what I have come up with and can't wait to get started knitting!!

My Uncle made this bug box a couple of years ago. He said he hasn't used it for a few years and said I could have it!! Isn't this sweet??!! Look how big it is!!!

And this is what I put into my new bug box!
My two tomato worms-soon to be Hawk Moths!

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded;
and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

Moss Roses from my mom's garden

For the word of the Lord is right and true;
His faithful in all He does.

the earth is full of His unfailing love.

Loomed hat

A few fun things I found in my mom's garden yesterday while I was weeding!

From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth-He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
Ps. 33:13-15

I didn't get much chance to be outside yesterday, but the few minutes I was out was so worth it!! Look what I found! With the hot and dry weather conditions we have had this summer, my Praying Mantis have not done too well. This is the largest one I've seen this year! To be honest, I really haven't even seen hardly any at all this year.

Look what came to my door yesterday morning!!!
THANK YOU, DORIS!!!
She brought me some more yarn and all these beautiful hats that she has been working on!

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.

Ps. 32:8

Another loomed hat, and a hand knit hat.

A locust shell my nephew found and a Moss Rose, one of my dad's favorite flowers!

Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!

Ps. 32:11

My mom is home from the hospital. But at least for a while, my computer time will be hit and miss. Actually, any time at home will be hit and miss!

We did step out for a walk around the yard yesterday afternoon and found this locust just coming out of his shell. I hadn't seen one do this for since my childhood, so I was excited!

My own bug update: My Monarch hatched yesterday while I was gone. I was sad not to have seen it. I had to ask Hubby to take him outside and let him go so I didn't even get to say good-bye! The next one is just going to be making his cocoon today and I will be missing that too.
The latest Tomatoe Worm dropped off the plant and buried himself yesterday. There are now 2 of them in there! I'm hoping it is early enough in the year that they will hatch yet in the next couple of weeks.
The Dill-Babes are doing well. The first one made a cocoon on Sunday. The second one is now lost! Seriously, I can't find him!!! LOL! I'm hoping he is in his cocoon somewhere here in the dining room! If so, we will find him when he hatches! And the third one I expect to be making a cocoon in the next day or two. He is still busy doing alot of eating, but he is getting huge!!

Knitting Update: I worked on the baby afghan yesterday at mom's. When I got home last night, I packed up my large knitting bag and have it ready to go with me today! It includes the logcabin afghan, 2 hats and a skien of yarn to start playing with for a baby sweater.

Be strong and take heart,
all you who hope in the Lord.

Ps. 31:24

Each morning brings a new day of uncertainty of what is going to happen.
Maybe mom will be home today, maybe not.
FYI: if I'm not here, checking in for a day or so, chances are, she came home.

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song.

I got the red sweater stitched together last night!
It is so hard to see in this picture, but there is an apple pattern stitched in the front there. Can you see it?
This is suppose to be a child's size 4. Worked in Red Heart SuperSaver on #8.
I used the basic pattern from Guideposts again and just made my own changes! (that's so fun!)
I'm still not sure where the sweaters will be going. Either the local Job & Family Services office or the local domestic violence shelter. When cooler weather gets here I will be in contact with both agencies to see where the greatest need is.

The Lord gives strength to His people;
the Lord blesses His people with peace.

Ps. 29:11

We have had the grandkids visiting us all week. They are so much fun! We took them home yesterday. It is so quiet around here this morning!
On Thurs. I needed to take my mom to the ER and they admitted her. She is still there.
Here is a picture of the river from last week. I need a little inner quieting down today. I honestly think that this is the beginning of a lifestyle change for the family because of my mom's situation.

Knitting update: I did finish knitting the red child's sweater. Took it with me to the hospital on Friday! I just need to get it stitched together. Maybe this afternoon I can get to that.
The rest of my hospital knitting time has been working on the baby blanket that I keep in my purse. And I have had no at home knitting time the last couple of days. But the new logcabin afghan is sitting there quietly beside my chair waiting for me!!

My heart says of You, "See His face!"
Your face, Lord, I will seek.

The life cycle of my Tomato Worm!

Find a worm eating up the tomato plants!
After eating and sleeping and pooping until he gets really big and fat,
he digs down into the the dirt and...

..and makes a cocoon.

After 2-4 weeks (the 'book' says 2 weeks, mine took 4 weeks!),
he comes out...

..as a lovely Hawk Moth!!
This picture was taken shortly after coming out. Due to some personal/family issues, I couldn't spend much time with him, so I took him right outside and set him up high on a tree. I did go back about a half an hour later and he had 'grown' into his wings! They were the same length as his body.
I have two more here in the house that I am keeping an eye on, so I'm really hoping to be able to spend more time with the next one!

The Lord confides in those who fear Him;
He makes His covenant known to them.

Ps. 25:14

Thursday, August 09, 2007

My Aunt stopped by yesterday morning and look at the goodies she brought me!!
The book is expected to be used!! She is expecting to be a new Grandma to twins! So she is wanting me to do some knitting for the babies!! I'm excited!
This bag of yarn and large needles are 'just for fun' (aka: Charity work!)

Look at what my newest Monarch-Babe did this morning!
He shed! Again, I had no idea that catepillars did that! How fun and exciting!

I was out gathering up some fresh dill for the Dill-Babes when I found this grasshopper just hanging out!

My eyes are ever on the Lord,
for only He will release my feet from the snare.

As promised, here are the last two pictures of my Monarch-Babe!

This is the weather I woke up to this morning!!
Glorious rain!! Lots of rain!!
What a great day!!

Hats on the loom.

The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who are in it; for He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.
Ps. 24:1

So much is going on at my house this morning!

The second 'Dill-Babe' shed!

I went out and found another 'Monarch-Babe'! This time a real 'baby'!

My first 'Monarch-Babe' made his cocoon this morning! What an amazing thing to watch! It doesn't take him long to do it, so I had to keep an eye on him for several hours so I wouldn't miss it!

In this last picture he is still wiggling around. Getting comfortable and shrinking up. I got impatient and just had to share so tomorrow I will have a picture of the finally stage.

And last, my 'Tomato-Babe' buried himself overnight. I was so disappointed. I wasn't ready for him to leave yet. And I have no idea yet how long they stay in the ground in their cocoon. I can't seem to find any information or anyone who knows that. The first one I had is still in the it's cocoon stage and it's been about 4 weeks now.

If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
2 Chron. 7:14

Look what I woke up to this morning!
This little guy had shed!
I had no idea that they did that!!
That is the coolest thing! I love having these little critters in the house here where I can watch them!! I am learning so much about them! Now he looks like a real catepiller!

This little fellow was born the same day, but he isn't growing as quickly.

Our Resurrection Lilies are in full bloom!!
We have had them for years, but we have never had so many bloom before!
They are just gorgeous!!

"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"
Luke 11:11-13

We went over to the river yesterday afternoon.
How wonderful! It was hot, but there was a nice gentle breeze coming off the water.
I really needed a 'water' fix! It always does my heart and soul good to go there.

The geese were enjoying the sunshine.

My current WIP's.
My new logcabin afghan. I am so excited about this one! I think I am really going to enjoy making this one just as much or more as the last one!
A child's sweater. You can't see it in this picture, but there is an apple pattern stitched into the front of it. I will take a better picture when it is finished.

Ask and it will be given to you;
Seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

For those of you who know me, you won't find today's post creepy.
For those who don't know me, now you will know I am crazy!

Last week, Hubby and I were out in the garden and he was commenting on wonderful the dill smells. (Of course, I can't imagine summer without the smell of fresh dill!) I always try to keep a small bouquet of fresh flowers on our dining room table. He says something about bringing in some dill for the smell, so I did. Well, last night as we are eating supper I see two little black things on my dill!! BABY CATEPILLARS!!!!
I took this picture before coffee this morning so it's not real clear, but you get the idea!
Of course, they will be staying with us until they become Black Swallowtail Butterflies!

Last evening we stepped out to take a look around and get some zuccini picked. I found a tomatoe worm!!! YAYYYY!! (that's him on the left!)
Then I got up this morning thinking, it is just so hot and dry out there!! Don't you think he would be happier here in the house? So I brought him in. (there on the right is his new home!) He settled in quite comfortably rather quickly and is already back to eating away!

I also found this Monarch catepillar while we were out yesterday.
And this morning I just had to bring him in too!

Both of these little critters will soon be making cocoons.
Of course, I will be taking pictures and keeping everyone posted of thier progress!

Two more hats worked on the loom.

Psalm 19
v.1: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.
v. 7&8: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
(verses 1-6: 'God' is more of a general term, as anyone of any religion would say. Verses 7-14: 'The Lord' (Hebrew for Yahweh) is a personal name...The heavens declare the glory of God, but God's law reveals even more-His personal voice to His chosen people. He introduces Himself to them by His first name, as it were. )

The logcabin afghan.
From Mason-Dixon Knitting.
Using WW yarn on size 9 circular.
Finished size is 42x42.
(THANK YOU, KATIE, for the yarn!)
I could have easily finished this blanket several days before I did. This has been the most 'interesting' afghan I have ever done. I didn't want to finish it! Usually when I am working on a large project, but the time I get to the end, I am getting excited about finishing it and already have plans for my next project. This time it was different. I knew it was time to be finishing it off. Didn't want it to get too wide. But I enjoyed it so much! And I didn't think I had enough yarn to make another one. When I got down to the last couple of rows I put it down and worked on something else for an entire day just so I wouldn't finish it!! I have never had that happen before! It was freaky! But by that evening I was up in my yarn stash, digging up enough yarn so I could get started on another on. Then it was ok and I went ahead and finished this one. This next one will be more like a 'scrap' afghan, with lots of different colors. Have to mix and match to get enough yarn! But that's ok! I LOVE alot of color! I was just so surprised at the way I didn't want to finish this one! How much I enjoyed all that mindless knitting. I must have needed it to help me mentally get through the last few months.

Check out these butterflies!!
You know what this means, right???!!
CATEPILLARS!!!!

Show the wonder of Your great love, You who save by Your right hand those who take refuge in You from their foes.
Ps. 17:7

Wednesday, August 01, 2007

I thought I'd share this with you.
This is an afghan I made for my daughter many years ago.
I cut the front out of her favorite sweatshirt and crocheted around it. Of course, if I were to do it again, I would do things differently! For instance, what was I thinking, cutting out a circle to make an oblong afghan??!! LOL! Oh well, live and learn!

Black-eyed Susan, Daisy, Zinnia

May the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
